Complete track geometry measurement systems

The KRABâ„¢ complete track geometry measurement system was designed as a unique, stand-alone measuring system. The KRAB is a trolley that can be pushed / pulled by a human operator or coupled to a two-way vehicle. Its modular concept adapts to all available track gauges from 545mm to 1,668mm.

KRAB can be equipped either with rollers or flanges, and flanges can be adapted for convenient tramway rail measurement. The main geometrical quantities KRAB measures are gauge, vertical and horizontal alignment (top), cant, and twist. Optionally, it can be equipped with a GPS module for easier localization of defects, track-gradient measurement, etc. Sophisticated evaluation software recalculates measured data to real geometry, and displays measurement history, events, local defects and quality indices.

The KRAB System is available in two versions - KRAB 84.09 and KRAB S-Light.

KZV also provides on-demand track geometry measurement, evaluation and consultancy. Krab 84.09 - Krab system can be designed for measuring of any track gauge or multiple gauges. It has proved its qualities during the track acceptances, measuring on main lines, secondary lines, railway sidings, turnouts etc.

It can be used as a recording and control device for tampering machines. Its robust design allows pulling behind two-way vehicle. The weight of the trolley is approx. 65kgs and is maintained by two persons.

The PDA and trolley batteries allow running time of min. 8 hours. The memory of the computer allows to store measurements of about 2.000 km of track.
Evaluation program, which runs on PC, calculates complete set pf geometry values from measurement data in D1 (or even D2) waveband. Evaluation program is very open-designed and allows many user options so that every customer can find his best option.

It can easily be designed to e.g. 1000mm / 1435mm / 1668mm configuration.

Trolley can be disassemled to 6 pieces and thus the transportation becomes very simple. Basic weight of the trolley is only 36 kgs.

However, due to risk of derailment, the measuring speed is limited to 10 kph.

Roughness and Corrugation

KZV also provides on-demand track geometry measurement, evaluation and consultancy. MDK02 is a measuring device intended for rail roughness and corrugation measurement. It is able to independently measure uninterrupted segments in a length of several metres, evaluate the acquired data and compute the resulting third-octave band analysis in conformity with the standard EN15610-41. Sensors can be easily adjusted into the centre of smooth rut run by vehicles on the rail head. For the measurement, MDK02 uses two independent versines with contact sensors placed perpendicular to longitudinal axis of the rail.

Contour is a laser device for the measurement of cross sections of tramway and flange rails, cross sections of frogs including their grooves. Contour operates on the principle of flat sampling of the entire laser mark on the surface of the measured rail. Cross section created by laser mark is sampled at one moment. To generate the laser mark, red laser with cylindrical lens is used. To sample laser mark image on the rail surface, area image sensor with integrated control computer is used.

VOK, measurement of rail wear and rail profile
KZV focuses its activity on development and production of complete track geometry measuring devices, and rail and wheel profilemeters, clearance scanners. KZV also provides on-demand track geometry measurement, evaluation and consultancy. VOK has been designed to complete the more complex measuring trolley Krab that measures full set of the track geometry quantities. This equipment measure gauge, cant and twist. It can measure also lateral wear of the vignol and/or grooved rails and cross profile of these rails as an option. It is ideally to be used on secondary routes, sidings and industrial tracks. The measurement speed is limited to approx. 6 kph. All above mentioned values are scanned continuously, only exception is the cross profile measurement that is performed during stop.
The PDA computer Itronix Q200 is used as data logger. Measuring rollers are adjustable in range 9-14mm under the rail top to follow running edge. The trolley surface finish is yellow powder paint. Measuring and evaluation software is same like Krab software. Measured values are stored to PDA compueter. Profiles can be compared later on with original profiles to determine rail wear.

MMD, small measuring draisine

MMD is a small measuring car for track geometry capable of measuring up to 40kph. It is a contact measuring car.

KZV also provides on-demand track geometry measurement, evaluation and consultancy. The small measuring car (MMD) is designed for rail geometry measuring of the track at approximately 40kph under load. This proposed coach is designed to be used either on regional or main lines. The coach has two axles and is powered by a diesel engine (the type of coach and its engine is up to the individual client.) The cab of the coach can accommodate four-six people in comfort. The measuring under carriage (bogie) consists of three axles and a measuring frame, and uses some of the positive elements and technologies of the geometry measuring trolley Krab.
The measuring bogie is lowered and raised by hydraulic cylinders, which are controlled from within the cabin. The complete array of measured variables of the measured geometry is evaluated and printed in real time during the movement of the car. The MMD frame has been developed as a fully independent unit and can be mounted under any suitable (existing) rail vehicle.In that way it can become a small track geometry measuring car at a very affordable price. In concept, however, the measuring bogie is a fully independent stand alone unit,which can be connected to any suitable vehicle. The vehicle is only used to provide the movement, power source and the working area.

Spider

SPIDER is an electronic device designed to measure versine values and to make subsequent calculations of wheel diameters of railway and tram vehicles.

KZV also provides on-demand track geometry measurement, evaluation and consultancy. SPIDER is an electronic measuring device designed to precisely determine the wheel diameters of the railway or tram vehicles. The wheel diameter is being determined indirectly, by calculation based on the versine measured on a three-point symmetrical chord having 300mm in length. The rise results from a contact measurement at the distance of 70 mm (for railway vehicles), or 45 mm (for tram vehicles) away from the internal surface of the wheel rim. The measuring tip is lowered/raised manually. The meter consist of a base plate with the bearing fitted arms at its ends, making the two end points of the symmetric chord.
A MITUTOYO sensor is at the mid point of the chord. Precise meter positioning on the wheel rim inner surface is assured by a triple of arms with their ground, hardened contact points. The bearing chord end points are fitted so that the measuring device could be could slightly be moved along the wheel being measured. A rise amount is then measured in more points to eliminate any local extremes.
The device is distributed in following forms:

1. Spider ID-U: device displays only the versine of the chord.

2. Spider ID-C: device displays directly the wheel diameter.

3. Spider with datalogger: device displays directly the wheel diameter, results are automatically recorded to datalogger memory. Datalogger allows to enter additional data, such as axle number, side (L/R), vehicle number etc.
